What are Gray administration’s goals for 2012? One more tweet a day.

As part of the council’s annual oversight hearings of city agencies, Mayor Vince Gray’s office of communications was recently asked to list five goals it has for the coming year.

Goal No. 2: To grow the number of followers of the mayor’s Twitter account by 20 percent.

Goal No. 3: To increase their Twitter output by 20 percent.

Forgive LL if he finds this a bit humorous. It’s good to have goals and everything, but c’mon!

The mayor has about 6,300 Twitter followers right now. So by LL’s math, he’ll need 1,260 more Twitter followers by Dec. 31, 2012. (By contrast, Newark Mayor Cory Booker has more than a million Twitter followers.)

The mayor’s office estimates it tweets about three to five times a day. So, being generous and using the five-a-day figure, a 20 percent increase would translate to exactly one more tweet per day than Gray’s communication’s shop is currently doing now. Don’t knock yourself out, guys!
