A pugnacious Ward 8 Councilmember Marion Barry just wrapped up an entertaining spot on The Kojo Nnamdi show. We learned:
1) Barry is not actually writing the tweets you see on his pure gold Twitter account. Instead, he says he has a person he talks to who apparently transforms Barry’s comments into tweets. “I never said I was a master tweeter,” says Barry.
2) Asked about his legacy, Barry said it’s one of fighting for the poor, the downtrodden, the underdog, etc. But in practical terms, he said his most lasting legacy is implementing the summer jobs program. (If you’ve ever been to a pro-Barry event where the summer jobs program hasn’t been mentioned, then you’ve never been to a pro-Barry type event.)
3) Barry has a dim view of efforts to lure the Redskins (or at least their training facility) back to the District. “That’s fantasyland,” says Barry, noting that Redskins’ owner Dan Snyder is making plenty of moula with the NFC East’s certifiably worst team training in Virginia and playing games in Prince George’s County. “There’s no incentive for him to move back to the District,” Barry says.
