OMG! Ward 4 Challenger Max Skolnik knows famous people!
Last night, Skolnik got a Twitter boost from Tom Colicchio, the firm but fair Top Chef judge who, you know, actually knows how to cook food.
“Proud of my friend @maxskolnik fighting to get corporate $ out of politics. Learn more or donate to his campaign,” Colicchio wrote, with a link to Skolnik’s website.
Skolnik says Colicchio is a long-time family friend through his wife, who has known Skolnik since they were kids. You may remember that this isn’t the Skolnik’s campaign’s first brush with stardom. Russell Simmons, founder of Def Jam Recordings, has donated to the campaign and will be giving Skolnik a more official endorsement in the near future, Skolnik says.
Asked about his fancypants supporters (who, LL would note, are New Yorkers and can’t vote in the District’s elections), Skolnik says having their support is “much better than a bunch of lobbyists, developers and fat cats.” That last line, if you can’t tell, is a jab at incumbent Ward 4 Councilmember Muriel Bowser‘s prodigious fundraising.
As for the Collicchio Tweet bump, Skolnik estimates it’s brought in about $1,000 so far.
