More than 11 percent of registered voters in D.C. had already voted by the time the polls opened this morning at 7 a.m., D.C. Board of Elections and Ethics figures show.
The BOEE just uploaded all the results of early voting, which saw 53,961 ballots cast. The early winners: President Barack Obama, obviously (he was beating Mitt Romney 94 percent to 4.7 percent), Eleanor Holmes Norton (who had 90 percent, compared to 4.5 for Statehood Green Party challenger Natale Stracuzzi and 4.1 percent for Libertarian Bruce Majors), Phil Mendelson (winning the race to become D.C. Council chairman with 74.2 percent against Calvin Gurley, who had 24.7), and Vincent Orange (who had 34.4 percent of the vote in a seven-person race for two at-large D.C. Council seats).
Also ahead, after early voting? David Grosso, who was beating incumbent Councilmember Michael Brown 20.7 percent to 18.1 percent.
But it’s still early, so those results could change—though Obama, Norton, Mendelson, and Orange should still probably be pretty confident.
