In what could easily be his last election, Marion Barry still has Ward 8—-or at least the crowd at his victory party at Georgina’s on Martin Luther King Avenue SE—-firmly in his column.
Even before Barry showed up, Ward 4 Councilmember Muriel Bowser declared it the best party she’s seen. When Barry showed up around 10, the crowd started chanting, “Southeast, South Southeast!” and “Ward 8. “
Barry hasn’t dipped into the green and white victory cake with his face on it yet, but he has dueted “Stormy Monday” with blues singer Stacy Brooks, a whom he met when she was performing at Madam’s Organ. Brooks says Barry’s tweets about her brought a huge crowd to the bar.
After their duet, Barry—-what else—-tweeted: “Owww! I love the blues!”
