Vince Gray‘s re-election campaign is only a few hours old, but he’s already snagged one prominent endorsement. Councilmember Yvette Alexander tells LL that she’ll be backing the mayor in next April’s primary.
Alexander, who holds Gray’s old seat in Ward 7, can certainly sing Gray’s praises. In her conversation with LL, she touted everything from the mayor’s veto of the Large Retailer Accountability Act to the performance of the D.C. Health Exchange.
Still, Alexander’s move isn’t exactly a surprise. At Gray’s birthday party, Alexander took the mic to say she wasn’t backing any of the announced mayoral candidates, then led partygoers in a chant of “four more years.”
As for the U.S. Attorney’s Office’s ongoing investigation into Gray’s 2010 campaign, Alexander isn’t concerned about the effort producing charges against her new candidate. “It would be nice to bring that to an end,” Alexander says.
