Vince Gray‘s making up for lost time. After launching his campaign months after his main opponents, Gray’s campaign came out today with its first ad.

The video, which played before Gray’s campaign kick-off speech, features Gray meeting with Ben’s Chili Bowl’s Virginia Ali, chest-bumping with a constituent, then doing some pretty flagrant jay-walking across Florida Avenue.

“As we move toward the future,  I want to be able to look back on my experiences as mayor saying that he brought opportunities to the Northeast and Northwest but you did the same thing for Southeast and Southwest,” Gray says in the voice-over narration.

It looks like a TV ad, and the campaign calls it a commercial, but Gray campaign manager Chuck Thies won’t say whether it will make the jump to television sets.

“If I tell you, I am also telling our opponents,” Thies emails LL. “We value the element of surprise.”
