Vince Gray‘s mayoral challengers can’t stop talking about last night’s State of the District speech. Muriel Bowser responded on D.C. community television, and Busboys and Poets owner Andy Shallal did his own event on something called Vonvo.
Tonight, At-Large Councilmember and mayoral hopeful Vincent Orange will take the airwaves for yet another response to Gray’s speech. Orange’s speech from Ward 5’s Brooks Mansion starts at 7 p.m. on DCTV. (As a strategic matter, LL isn’t sure why a candidate would take time out of campaigning to go on public-access TV the day after Gray’s speech, but then again, LL isn’t running Orange’s campaign.)
There’s one reason to think Orange will go beyond his usual, couplet-heavy stump speeches: Since being fingered as a recipient of help from scandal ringleader Jeff Thompson on Monday, Orange has started to make some portentous announcements.
In a forum this morning on NewsChannel 8, Orange mentioned cryptically that something needs to happen in the next seven days, or U.S. Attorney Ron Machen will take “the next step.” Now that’s must-see TV.
