With Muriel Bowser pulling away in the polls, Vince Gray isn’t the only candidate trying to convince voters that the Ward 4 councilmember is a managerial lightweight. Mayoral hopeful Jack Evans, who previously showed up in Bowser’s ward to criticize her economic record, is taking his fight against Bowser to voters’ mailboxes.
Evans’ campaign provided LL with two mailers aimed at Bowser, both of which are available below. In the first, a cute kid plays on a playground on the front page…but danger lurks! The mailer warns that “what his DC will look like……depends on what you do April 1.” On the interior pages, the mailer touts Evans’ endorsements from The InTowner and The Downtowner, paired with negative quotes about Bowser from Washington Post columnist Robert McCartney and D.C. Watch reporter Dorothy Brizill. (The Brizill article is also a Gray campaign favorite).
The second mailer takes a more startling approach, pairing a comparison of Evans’ first seven years on the Council with Bowser’s. While Evans’ page is long list of accomplishments, Bowser only has one bullet point—-her ethics bill and foreclosure legislation—-surrounded by a huge field of white space.
Bowser’s campaign didn’t respond to a request for comment about the mailers.
