The two leading mayoral hopefuls campaigned 10 minutes away from each other Sunday morning, with Vince Gray visiting Allen Chapel AME on Alabama Avenue SE and Muriel Bowser going to Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church near Fort Dupont Park.

LL headed to Bowser’s stop, where the homily centered on rejoicing during Lent. Bowser has her own reasons to rejoice, with recent polls showing her tied or slightly ahead of Gray. But today brought less happy news for the Ward 4 councilmember, with Gray’s camp releasing another anti-Bowser video for its suddenly ubiquitous “Muriel Not Ready” campaign.

The last video, which has been getting heavy play on Internet video prerolls, centered on footage from the NewsChannel 8 debate where Bowser admitted she’s only ever managed three or four people. The new spot slams Bowser for being ambivalent during Wednesday’s WUSA9 debate about whether she’d retain schools chancellor Kaya Henderson, a line of attack also seized by the Jack Evans campaign last week and in Post article.

In other assorted election news, according to an email LL received this morning, the guy who illicitly plants flowers by the entrance to the Dupont Circle Metro is endorsing Bowser. Judging from the email, his endorsement is based entirely on the fact that Bowser “wrinkled her nose” when he complained to her that Metro staff ripped out his plants.

For what it’s worth, the Phantom Planter also backs Brianne Nadeau in Ward 1.
