An email going around today has good news for Ward 6 D.C. Councilmember Tommy Wells:
City Paper Exit Poll Shows Wells Leading
Posted by Frank Herbert on Apr. 1, 2014 at 12:13 pm
Exit polls taken today at key precincts in all 8 wards, as well as, telephone interviews with early voters have Tommry Wells leading Muriel Bowser and Mayor Vincent Gray. As of 12:00 pm the exit polls have Tommy Wells leading Muriel Bowser and Mayor Vincent Gray, 25% to 23% and 21% respectively. No other candidate was receiving more than 10%. WTOP election expert, Hank Davis, attributed Wells’ surprise showing to the contested primary for Tommy Wells’ city council seat in Ward 6. “If these turnout trends continue, Tommy Wells will be our next mayor”, said Davis. The City Paper will have another update at 5:00 pm.
Everyone get ready to take BikeShare to Top of the Hill to celebrate! The only hitch: Washington City Paper is not conducting an exit poll at all.
For that matter, Hank Davis and Frank Herbert don’t seem to have anything to do with WTOP. The email was apparently persuasive to some people who got it or heard about it, though; I got a call earlier today from someone who wanted some more details on our poll.
Maybe it’s not really a surprise—today is, after all, April 1. At least one line in the email was right: We published this update at 5 p.m.
