A week after Vince Gray‘s primary loss, his lame-duck administration has already lost two agency heads. News broke yesterday that Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs boss Nicholas Majett is ditching the District for Prince George’s County, and now District Department of Transportation head Terry Bellamy is also leaving, according to D.C. Council transportation committee chairwoman Mary Cheh and a Gray administration official speaking to LL on background.
DDOT chief engineer Nick Nicholson is also leaving the agency, according to Cheh. Both DDOT and the Gray administration didn’t respond to immediate requests for comment about Bellamy and Nicholson’s employment status.
Speaking outside today’s Council meeting, Cheh wondered how many Gray agency heads would stick around for the nine months before a new administration.
“We’re in for a difficult time and this is just a harbinger of that,” Cheh said.
While it’s not clear what’s next for Bellamy, LL expects we’ll find out tomorrow morning, when Bellamy and Gray will launch the District’s pothole repair campaign at a press conference at the corner of Benning Road and G Street SE.
