Say what you will about the District’s Advisory Neighborhood Commissions, but they aren’t short on drama. In the latest saga, Ward 8 ANC member Mary Cuthbert shows off some colorful language and appears to shove a young man at a meeting last night. And it’s all on video.

The trouble began at the ANC8E meeting last night, according to Trey Yingst, an American University student who shot the video for website News2Share. As one ANC member left to deny the group a quorum, ANC candidate Joseph Johnson left to persuade the woman to stay. That’s when he caught the ire of Cuthbert, the chairwoman of nearby group ANC8C.

“I’m going to knock your ass back where you belong, you little motherfucker!” the 68-year-old Cuthbert yelled from her chair, rising to pursue the young man.

“Who you gonna fuck with?” Cuthbert said, before apparently shoving Johnson, who has his hands behind his back in the video.

Johnson says he thinks Cuthbert was trying to provoke him. Cuthbert didn’t respond to LL’s requests for comment.

“If it was another person who was not raised the way that I was, I’m sure that it would have been totally different,” Johnson says.

This isn’t Cuthbert’s first appearance in the world of neighborhood controversy. In 2010, a video emerged of Cuthbert apparently calling a political rival a “dumb nigger.”
