Members of the D.C. Council are always parking illegally, but they’re rarely as obvious as Ward 2’s Jack Evans was on Thursday night. A PoPville tipster caught Evans parking his car in front of a West End fire hydrant, then leaving it there for 45 minutes.

After being busted, Evans apologized in a statement provided by Evans spokesman Tom Lipinsky.

“I want to apologize for parking in a fire hydrant zone on Thursday evening,” Evans writes. “To be honest, I didn’t realize there was a fire hydrant. That is, of course, no excuse, and I now fully recognize that was not a legal parking spot.”

LL’s a little concerned that it took a blog post for Evans to realize he parked in front of a fire hydrant. The amateur parking enforcer who caught Evans included some rich commentary on Evans’ post-parking demeanor:

Jack Evans stepped out in a tux, looked straight at the fire hydrant, put a cigar in his mouth, and walked toward the entrance of the Ritz. It was like some sort of caricature of a political fat cat.

Lipinsky declined to comment on the characterization of his boss as a fat cat.

Remember: If you spot a councilmember parking illegally, send it to LL and it’ll be featured on Councilgram, the Instagram account for scofflaw councilmembers.
