“What you learned about today is only the tip of the iceberg.” – U.S. Attorney Ron Machen
U.S. Attorney Ron Machen put Vince Gray‘s re-election hopes in the dirt with those words on March 10, promising more to come after Jeff Thompson pleaded guilty to financing a shadow campaign on Gray’s behalf. Gray, once leading in the polls, went on to lose in the primary by more than 10 percent.
Since then, Machen’s new revelations haven’t amounted to much: guilty pleas from three of Thompson’s favored D.C. Council candidates, and some more alleged dirt on Gray from campaign driver Mark Long. But there’s always 2015.
