“So I ask you, ‘Who do you believe?'”—Vince Gray

Mayor Vince Gray started his re-election campaign with an apology, asking voters to forgive him for missing the criminal shenanigans behind his 2010 victory.

A day after shadow campaign financier Jeff Thompson‘s March guilty plea, though, Gray had to do more than that. In his State of the District address, Gray asked an audience who they believed: a criminal mastermind, or their mayor? As it turned out, a majority of primary voters opted for the story told by Thompson, or at least U.S. Attorney Ron Machen.
