What a coincidence. The Washington Post editorial board, long simpatico with Muriel Bowser, agrees with the mayor on the upcoming special elections, too. Last night, the ed board endorsed Bowser-backed candidates Brandon Todd and LaRuby May in Ward 4 and Ward 8, respectively.
Calling the Ward 4 field “crowded but relatively weak,” the ed board praises Todd for his work as Bowser’s constituent service D.C. Council staffer. But the Post commits the most ink to May, with nods to rivals Eugene D. Kinlow and Vince Gray favorite Sheila Bunn.
The Post endorsement aims to preempt worries about a potential Bowser bloc on the Council, writing that May “leaves no doubt that her first allegiance will be to her ward.”
LL doubts that the Post endorsement means much in Ward 8. But with a hefty bankroll and a campaign organization that handily won a recent straw poll, May might not need it.
