Sulaimon Brown has been keeping a low profile since the scandal he kicked off took down Vince Gray‘s re-election hopes last year, but now the 2010 Gray campaign stalking horse has reemerged—-and he’s not happy with new Mayor Muriel Bowser. Via press release, Brown has some hot takes on the new administration and the special elections.
Brown, who endorsed Bowser’s mayoral bid, has soured on her since then, apparently over her power tussles with the likes of Attorney General Karl Racine.
“It’s been a long time since we had a female mayor, my hope is she’s successful but I must admit, right now it doesn’t look that way,” Brown writes.
Brown even implies that he could kick Bowser out of office, a threat that LL suspects may not be realizable.
“If anyone knows anything about removing a mayor from office, or making their life miserable its [sic] Sulaimon Brown, so take my advice, be cool, your political capital and job is at stake,” Brown writes.
Despite his unhappiness with Bowser, Brown backs mayoral favorite Brandon Todd in the Ward 4 special election. And in Ward 8, Brown endorses Marion C. Barry, even though the mutual dislike between Brown and the elder Barry made it into Barry’s memoir.
“I personally did not like his father but I respect him and with that, his son Marion Barry Jr. has my support,” Brown writes.
Brown’s press release:
After careful consideration, I will be endorsing Marion Barry’s son (Marion Barry Jr.) aka Christopher for Ward City Council. This young man is well capable of representing his ward. I’m disappointed in some of the other candidates in the race who lived off his father’s power in life but turned on his son in death. I personally did not like his father but I respect him and with that, his son Marion Barry Jr. has my support. Brandon Todd has my support for Ward 4. This young man has promise, not because of his relationship with the mayor, but because he is a hard worker with the right connections to get things done. I also wanted to express concern over the governing style of Mayor Murial Bowser. She is spending her political capital to the point of bankruptcy. I endorsed her campaign and advised her team Bill Lightfoot and others on how to defeat Mayor Vincent Gray because the city needed a fresh start, but the start if continues in the direction its going will have no checks and balances and Continuity of Government. It’s been a long time since we had a female mayor, my hope is she’s successful but I must admit, right now it doesn’t look that way. All independent agencies should remain independent. Muriel Bowser should learn how to work well with others as opposed to trying to take over their agencies on the caveat, “I’m ultimately responsible” Checks and Balance Mrs. Bowser, Checks and Balance. Also, the only institution of higher learning owned by the city, UDC, is receiving a proposed budget cut. Not a smart move Mrs. Bowser. Everything you say seems to be good in Form but empty in Substance. If anyone knows anything about removing a mayor from office, or making their life miserable its Sulaimon Brown, so take my advice, be cool, your political capital and job is at stake.
Sincerely, Sulaimon Brown
