The D.C. Council has a month and a half left on its summer recess, meaning that its 13 members can’t defeat each other legislatively any time soon. But At-Large Councilmember and fitness enthusiast Vincent Orange has another sort of competition in mind. In an email yesterday, Orange challenged his colleagues to a ping-pong tournament.

“This will be great fun,” Orange writes.

So far, according to Orange, Councilmembers Jack Evans, Yvette Alexander, David Grosso, Brianne Nadeau, Kenyan McDuffie, and Brandon Todd have accepted. No word yet on the stakes of the contest.

If councilmembers exerting themselves is your idea of a good time, you can check out the tournament Sept. 4 between noon and 2 p.m., at the Golden Triangle BID’s “Farragut Fridays” event.

“Grosso’s the favorite,” says Orange.
