Let us tell you the information you need to register and cast a ballot in D.C.

Watch out, Yvette Alexander—Ed Potillo wants your job! D.C. Democratic State Committee bigwig Ed Potillo kicked off his campaign for the Ward 7 D.C. Council seat Saturday, promising to get more for the ward.

“We have waited long enough and I’m here to collect,” Potillo told a crowd of roughly two dozen at Marshall Heights’ Malolo Bed and Breakfast.

Potillo, the DCDSC’s vice chairman and the head of the Ward 7 Democrats, had raised nearly $20,000 in an exploratory committee as of July 31.

Potillo’s campaign chairman, in an apparent jab at Alexander, said Ward 7 needs a councilmember who will “represent our needs, not the needs of Ward 3.” Potillo had his own riff on the line, this time saying that the ward needs a representative who represents the east side of the Anacostia River, not the western side of Rock Creek Park.

For now, Potillo is Alexander’s most prominent challenger, but he might not be for long. Ex-mayor Vince Gray is rumored to be mulling a run against his former protege; so is Gray-era fire chief Kenneth Ellerbe.
