The 51-foot inflatable joint that puffed up near the White House on April 2 is expected to reappear at the District’s annual Funk Parade this weekend.
Local advocacy group DCMJ says in a newsletter and Facebook post that joint-bearers will gather at the Howard Theatre around 3 p.m. on Saturday. This time, though, DCMJ notes that the inflatable object will be accompanied by “a bumpin’ sound system” as it proceeds down U Street. About 70,000 people are anticipated to attend the Funk Parade, according to organizers, which will run from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. The parade is bookended by a host of events during day fair and music festival components.
City Desk has reached out to DCMJ cofounder Adam Eidinger and will update this post when we hear back. Eidinger and cofounder Nik Schiller recently met with White House staff to discuss the possibilities of marijuana reform during President Barack Obama‘s tenure and after. The group subsequently said that it would be pushing for a “higher-level” meeting on drug policy with officials.
The Howard Theatre is located at 620 T St. NW. DCMJ also says it plans to return to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue on May 20:
