Come Saturday, approximately 70,000 people are expected to descend on the U Street area for the third annual Funk Parade—thousands more than in the past—resulting in temporary street closures.
D.C. police say the parade will assemble on the 600 block of T Street NW between Florida Avenue and Seventh Street NW at 3:45 p.m. Starting at 4 p.m., marchers will proceed west on T Street NW to Vermont Avenue NW, then northeast on Vermont Avenue NW to U Street NW, and finally west on U Street NW to its intersection with 12th Street NW. This route should reopen to traffic around 5 p.m.
Saturday will feature an array of performances and other events before and after the parade (watch out for a 51-foot joint), so sidewalks could be tight. See a taste of what the parade will be like below:
