Two Southern-style pop-ups are coming up this weekend, and they have almost identical names: Maison Dixon and Mason Dixie Biscuit Co. To help avoid any confusion, here’s how to tell them apart.
Where: Capitol Lounge, 229 Pennsylvania Ave. SE
When: Aug. 9 from 5 to 10:30 p.m. Maison Dixon has held pop-ups monthly all summer.
Who’s behind it: Nashville, Tenn., native and chef Adam Cox, who’s teaming up with Granville Moore’s chef and owner Teddy Folkman.
What they’ll serve: The Southern-style menu features fried chicken and waffles, grilled pimento cheese, deep fried smoked pork chops, smoked brisket sloppy joes, jalapeño cheese grits, corn dogs, and other cuts of meat on the bone. Don’t miss the Nashville-style “hot chicken.”

Where: Roofers Union, 2446 18th St. NW. The biscuit biz will also set up shop at food incubator and “pop-uppery” EatsPlace in Park View come September.
When: Aug. 8 and 9 from 11 p.m. until 1 a.m. (or until the biscuits run out)
Who’s behind it: Former Astro Doughnuts & Fried Chicken chef and Menu MBK pastry chef Jason Gehring, chef, bartender, and sommelier Mo Cherry, and restaurant marketing and business management vet Ayeshah Abuelhiga
What they’ll serve: Mason Dixie will offer three biscuit sandwiches including fried chicken, pulled pork, and the “sloppy Giuseppe.” Meanwhile, Roofers Union chef Marjorie Meek-Bradley will cook up Southern-inspired snacks like fried green tomatoes with pimento cheese “wiz” and barbecue brisket hoecake tacos. Grab a moon pie for dessert.
