One of D.C.’s best “next Chipotles“—Cava Grill—opens its sixth location in Chinatown today in the former home of Capital Q BBQ. From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Greek-inspired rice bowls, salads, and pitas are free, although diners are encouraged to give donations to local nonprofits MicroGreens and City Blossoms.
A new feature of this location will be preservative-free, organic flour pita made from scratch and baked in a stone-fired oven on-site, thanks to a partnership with D.C. baker Optimal Grains.
Cava is expanding further this fall with shops coming to Gaithersburg in late October and Bethesda in November. Next year, the local chain will open in Reagan National Airport, Fairfax, and Ashburn. New Cava locations will have beer and wine on tap, open kitchens, and rotating menus of soups, juices, and teas.
UPDATE: Cava Mezze Grill is now going by Cava Grill to avoid confusion with the full-service Barracks Row restaurant from the same owners, Cava Mezze.
