You’ll have to wait a little while longer to try chef Seng Luangrath‘s famous crispy rice salad in D.C. The owner of Bangkok Golden in Falls Church has been hosting invite-only dinners for her new Columbia Heights Laotian restaurant, Thip Khao, this week, but the public debut has now been delayed until early December, PoPville first reported.
Luangrath tells Y&H she is going to visit her father, who is ill, in Laos. “If I don’t go now, once we open I won’t be able to go,” she says.
Luangrath says the last time she visited her home country was in 1995. She initially left Laos for a refugee camp in Thailand in 1981 amid political turmoil lingering in the wake of the Vietnam War. Stay tuned for an upcoming Y&H column about Luangrath’s story and cooking.
In the meantime, whet your appetite with a look at Thip Khao’s preliminary menu below.
