Vegetarian taco purveyor Chaia is finally expanding beyond the local farmers markets. Founders Bettina Stern and Suzanne Simon have just signed a lease for a permanent shop at 3207 Grace St. NW in Georgetown.
The new location will offer a larger selection of taco combos, highlighting local, seasonal produce inside homemade corn tortillas. If you’ve never tried them, the tacos come stuffed with ingredients like braised chard, potato, and green sauce or skillet-charred corn with green chilies, queso, and herbs. A variety of sides and natural drinks will also be available.
Chaia plans to serve lunch Tuesday through Friday, brunch Saturday and Sunday, and dinner Tuesday through Sunday.

UPDATE: Chaia will offer five types of tacos daily, up from three available at the markets. Weekend brunch will include scrambled eggs on the tacos and, eventually, chilaquiles. Stern says they’re still working on the sides menu. Drinks will be all-natural and made in house. Think honey crisp apple shrub, which will be available at the Dupont farmers market this week.
The space itself is about 1,00o-square-feet on the first floor and 400 on the second. It is expected to open in June of 2015.
