Just because shorts season is over doesn’t mean patio season is too. Several restaurants have outfitted their outdoor areas with fire pits, heaters, and blankets to maximize seating throughout the winter. From hot cocoa bars to complimentary s’mores kits, here are four classy places to stave off the cold with hot food and drinks.

Poste Moderne Brasserie
555 8th St. NW

The restaurant’s winter lounge is back with complimentary s’mores (with housemade marshmallows) to snack on around the fire pits. Heater lamps and blankets help keep things toasty.

Hot Drinks: The Appleton of My Eye with rum, salted caramel cider, and a caramel drizzled apple garnish; Holey Moley with tequila, chili and cinnamon spiced hot chocolate, and whipped cream

Hot Food: Skewers with spicy chicken, bulgogi beef, shrimp, or mushroom and scallions

Iron Gate
1734 N St. NW

For the first time this year, the Greek restaurant’s wisteria-covered patio has been transformed into a “winter garden” with new lounge furniture, heaters, and blankets.

Hot Drinks: Rye Response with warm apple cider, rye, cappelletti, and sweet vermouth; Hot Doctrine with hot chamomile tea, St-Germain Elderflower liqueur, honey liqueur, and lemon

Hot Food: Grilled lamb skewers with yogurt and charred lemon; phyllo pie with beef and goat cheese; oak-roasted mushrooms

A Bar + Kitchen
2500 Pennsylvania Ave. NW

In addition to the fire pits, heaters, and blankets, this winter patio has DIY hot cocoa and hot chocolate bars. S’more kits are available for $5 per person.

Hot Drinks: For $5, customize your own hot cider with cinnamon sticks and other mulling spices or hot cocoa with whipped cream, marshmallows, peppermint, and other toppings. Add booze to your drink for an additional $6.

Hot Food: Pancetta and mushroom flatbread; beef and cheddar sliders; grilled cheese panini

Copperwood Tavern
4021 Campbell Ave., Arlington

The 44-seat patio has two new fire pits surrounded by benches plus fleece blankets available. For $10, get a s’mores pack with four marshmallows, four graham crackers, one Hershey’s chocolate bar, and two skewers.

Hot Drinks: Spiced Rum with apple cider redux, lemon, and nutmeg; Apple brandy with port-vanilla syrup, cinnamon, nutmeg, and orange.

Hot Food: Short ribs; Manhattan clam chowder; French onion soup; maple-brined pork chop with cocoa-chili rub
