If you’re fan of Foggy Bottom-based, fast-casual burger joint Burger Tap & Shake, look for the eatery’s second outpost opening in Tenleytown today.
The new BTS will feature the same burgers and boozy shakes as its sister location, including the Apache Sweat Lodge (green chilies, pepperjack, onions, and XXX sauce), SoCal Pilgrim (provolone, avocado, greens, red onion, tomato, and chipotle ranch), and classic, standard Six Buck Chuck. Prices range from $6 to $8 before extra toppings.
The dining room seats 52, comparable to its location in Foggy Bottom. There’s also a 36-seat outdoor patio.
Wind down during weekday happy hour (3 to 5 p.m. and 10 p.m. to close) with $5 draft beers and cocktails at its 15-seat bar. (The $8 “shaketails”—like Talladega Nights with Firefly Sweet Tea Vodka, limoncello, vanilla ice cream, lemon juice—aren’t included in happy hour.) While BTS won’t serve drinks from its outdoor bar area—the local Advisory Neighborhood Commission denied its request to serve liquor outside—chef and co-owner Jeff Tunks recommends diners grab a drink inside and bring it out to the patio. The rail seating faces the Tenleytown Metro station and American University bus stop, making it a good place for people-watching.
And, in honor of its neighboring university, BTS Tenleytown’s dining room features a mural of Clawed Z. Eagle, American’s mascot. Even better for AU students? Like it’s Foggy Bottom counterpart, BTS Tenleytown will accept EagleBucks, American’s meal plan dollars.
