Chef RJ Cooper‘s Mosaic District restaurant Gypsy Soul appears to have closed after just over a year in business. The restaurant’s website as well as its social media presence have gone dark. A former employee confirmed that the restaurant has closed.
The news isn’t a total shocker: The Post reported back in June that the landlord had filed a lawsuit to evict the restaurant. According to court documents, Cooper and his wife/business partner, Judith Cooper, owed $277,790. The restaurant continued to operate in spite of a consent order on June 19 to immediately vacate the property, the Post also reported. “We are currently and confidently working with the landlord to resolve the dispute,” Cooper wrote to the Post at the start of July. “Gypsy Soul is looking forward to a fun and busy summer.”
Y&H contacted Cooper but did not immediately hear back. Representatives from developer Edens, the landlord, were also not immediately available.
