First it was yoga with cats. Now, cat delivery. Really.
D.C.’s one and only cat cafe, Crumbs & Whiskers, will deliver a basket of three to five kittens plus a box of macarons to feline fanatics on Dec. 20. The $99 price tag buys you 30 minutes with the animals. Sign-up will go live on Crumbs & Whiskers’ website in early December.
Professional cat lady/owner Kanchan Singh says she’s been hosting “kitten parties” at the cat cafe, and a number of attendees have surprised a friend or significant other with tickets. But, she says, it’s never quite a complete surprise because people know where they are heading. To boost the potential for genuine astonishment, she and her staff came up with the idea of kitten delivery.
If you fall in love with a kitten, you can adopt one, but you won’t be able to keep it then and there. Rather, you’ll have to submit an application with Lost Dog & Cat Rescue Foundation, which partners with Crumbs & Whiskers. The process takes about 24 hours.
There are some additional restrictions for delivery as well. First, you must live in Georgetown. Also, Crumbs & Whiskers is only going to have one car, so a very limited number of people will be able to sign up for the kitten delivery. If all goes well, Singh wants to do the same thing on a larger scale for Valentine’s Day and possibly other holidays.
