No one has ever been as hyped about the hapless H Street streetcar as the singer of this new city-funded radio jingle. Over a rocking guitar riff, the singer makes slowly riding a little more than two miles sound like a blast.
Sing along:
Streetcar, streetcar, cruising along.
Streetcar, streetcar, singing a song.
Streetcar, streetcar—come join the party!
The ad, first reported by WJLA, is part of a $221,000 ridership campaign from District Department of Transportation. DDOT spokesman Terry Owens couldn’t provide figures on how much of that $221,000 will be spent on radio ads for the streetcar song.
Even before the ad campaign, streetcar ridership has been slightly increasing. New June ridership numbers from DDOT show 69,467 people riding that month, a slight increase over earlier months.
