Looks like residents opposed to a mixed-use redevelopment planned for the SunTrust Bank plaza in Adams Morgan will have more than their neighborhood’s eponymous festival to celebrate this weekend.
Developer PN Hoffman has taken its zoning application for the six-story project it aims to build at 18th Street and Columbia Road NW off the table, UrbanTurf first reported. In a statement released Friday, the company says it will proceed with the redevelopment but, for now, has withdrawn its filing before the Board of Zoning Adjustment to tweak the design. Changes will include “lowering portions of the building along 18th Street to five stories, lowering the overall building height by five feet,” and reducing the plaza’s reconfiguration by five feet.
“We have always sought to bring a balanced mix of thoughtful design and sensitivity to the neighborhoods in which we serve and continue to prioritize that as we move forward on developing this very important neighborhood,” PN Hoffman said.
The fight over the plaza was the subject of a recent City Paper District Line.
