In last week’s City Paper cover story, Hamed Abawi detailed a series of unsavory and potentially illegal sex acts he committed over three decades of driving a cab in the District. Abawi told City Paper that he secretly recorded his often-intoxicated passengers and walked a “a fine line … between rape and fun.”

Now District cab regulators are investigating Abawi, who still holds a valid taxi license.

Employees at D.C.’s Department of For-Hire Vehicles are trying to reach Abawi, according to agency spokesman Neville Waters. The agency has also asked the Metropolitan Police Department to investigate Abawi.

Abawi didn’t respond to City Paper‘s request for comment.
