This morning, Montgomery County residents awoke to some devastating news: Legendary local dive bar Hank Dietle’s was severely damaged in a fire last night.

Dietle’s, which has been a D.C.-area staple since it opened in the 1950s, has a storied history—including boasting Montgomery County liquor license number 001. It’s certainly a big loss for Montgomery County, but a part-time bartender of Dietle’s says she’s starting a GoFundMe to help rebuild. In honor of Dietle’s, two local folk musicians, David Goodfriend and Willie Barry, performed an original song about their favorite bar today, in its smoldering ashes. Long live Dietle’s.
