Over the weekend of February 11th and 12th, teams of architecture students that had never met each other before took 48 hours to put together their concepts for the redevelopment of Uline Arena, a massive, historic brick warehouse just east of Union Station. Here’s what they came up with.

TEAM ONEs CONCEPT: Our proposal for a renovated Uline will highlight the idea of connections–both between programmatic elements as well as between the project and its urban context. The circulation spine, a high-tech link between the historical structures on the site, incorporates multiple functions. At night, its woven metal facade is the perfect backdrop for dynamic lighting installations and projections. During the day the same metal facade is a translucent sun-screen, providing views from the museum space into the performance space as well as into the NoMa neighborhood.s CONCEPT: Our proposal for a renovated Uline will highlight the idea of connections–both between programmatic elements as well as between the project and its urban context. TEAM 2s CONCEPT STATEMENT: The Uline Music Center celebrates its position at an exciting intersection in Washington as it grows organically out of the existing geometries. While mediating between the new development in NoMa and the neighborhoods to the east, the project provides a home for music. The historic Uline arena and icehouse fabric will be preserved and incorporated into the architecture while new public space sponsors future growth.s CONCEPT STATEMENT: The Uline Music Center celebrates its position at an exciting intersection in Washington as it grows organically out of the existing geometries. TEAM THREES CONCEPT STATEMENT: Weaving together historical and contemporary elements, we create a concept reflecting the experiential diversity of the neighborhood and celebrating the dynamic past/future of the Uline Arena. This creates a destination within the community, further enriching the cultural fabric of the NoMa District.S CONCEPT STATEMENT: Weaving together historical and contemporary elements, we create a concept reflecting the experiential diversity of the neighborhood and celebrating the dynamic past/future of the Uline Arena.
