Local newcomers Foxhall Stacks played their second show ever last night opening for the seminal Dot Dash at DC9. While new as a band, they play as tight as a four-some who’ve been together forever, mostly because they have, but as members of different seminal D.C. bands. Guitarist Jim Spellman was in Velocity Girl, singer/guitarist Bill Barbot was a member of Jawbox, bassist Brian Baker played in Minor Threat, and drummer Peter Moffett also played drums in Government Issue. The sound is post-punk pop and full of hooks, but with a thick and driving backbeat thanks to Moffett and Baker. (Listen to a couple of tracks here). The band is currently at work on their debut record, with ex-Edsel guitarist Geoff Sanoff as producer at J. Robbins’ Magpie Cage Studio.
