For the latest edition of City Paper Arts Club, arts editor Kayla Randall and multimedia editor Will Warren watched Captain Fantastic, a 2016 drama written and directed by Matt Ross and starring Viggo Mortensen as Ben, the father of six children living isolated in the wilds of the Pacific Northwest. There, he and his wife Leslie (Trin Miller) have been teaching the children survivalist skills and left-wing philosophy for years, but when she dies by suicide, he and the kids must interact with the outside world. Conflicts and culture clashes ensue.
