The galloping horses on the cover of Tigercity’s Pretend Not to Love EP hark back to an era in which every middle-school girl with teased bangs had some equine image across her Trapper Keeper. While Brooklyn has certainly seen no shortage of bands pumping out ’80s-inspired dance music, Tigercity has buffed down some of that approach’s harder edges. Instead, this foursome of gangly white dudes makes the kind of laid-back dance music that could only come from a childhood of absorbing disco, Prince, and Hall & Oates records. In a culture where we’ve pretty much overdosed on irony and rehashed almost every movement there is to rehash, it’s refreshing to come across a band with no other agenda than to get stoic wallflowers dancing like happy toddlers. Tigercity performs with Stylofone and Setting Sun at 9:30 p.m. at the Red and the Black, 1212 H St. NE. $8. (202) 399-3201.
