There’s still time to nominate local icons for Best of D.C.
Continental Drifters consist primarily of refugees from defunct bands (the dBs, the Bangles, the Cowsills) who have graciously spared us lackluster solo careers and allied themselves in a loose federation recalling The Band and Fairport Convention. This democratic approach is appealing in theory, but the group would do well to emphasize Susan Cowsill’s clarion vocals rather than give drummer Carlo Nuccio three turns at the mike. Still, the Drifters’ eclectic country-soul achieves a fraternal feel that bodes well for a live setting, and if Cowsill and ex-Bangle Vicki Peterson are in good voice, the singing should be beautiful. At 10:30 p.m. at the 9:30 Club’s Atlantis, 930 F St. NW. $5. (202) 393-0930. (James Lochart)
