No longer much interested in location shooting, Jean-Luc Godard took an assignment to make a film about Russia for Aaron Spelling’s World Vision and set it entirely in the Russian literature and film on his shelves—and in his head. The Kids Play Russian finds the cinematic essayist playing Dostoevsky’s Idiot as he constructs a characteristically sophisticated and multileveled analysis of “poor Russia.” At 8 p.m. today and tomorrow at the Hirshhorn Museum & Sculpture Garden’s Ring Auditorium, 8th & Independence Ave. SW. FREE. (202) 357-2700. (MJ)
