We can't make City Paper without you
I know that Dave McKenna was just a contributing writer in the most recent edition of Washington City Paper, but I expect better from permanent staff members such as editors and copy editors. McKenna did a pretty good job of copying the lyrics from the Boomslang song “Whatsa Matter” (Artifacts, 10/27). Too bad he couldn’t do as well and get the singer right. Yes, it’s true that Kevin McMahon is the lead vocalist for the band, but he did not sing lead on that song. The outstanding lead guitarist, Mark Nensel, sang lead on that one. If McKenna cares to write any more articles on local bands in the future, please have him not only copy lyrics off of the CD jacket, but look up who sang the song as well. Oh yeah, Mark and Kevin have not been playing together since 1988. They’ve been playing together since 1990. Who did he interview anyway, a groupie?
Just for your information, the band has been nominated for four WAMMIEs, including song of the year, “Shimmering.” And if anybody wants to see this excellent band play, don’t go where McKenna said to go. He will be the only one there. Actually, they’re playing at Bad Habits in Arlington on Nov. 3 and T.T. Reynolds in Fairfax on Nov. 9.
