Author/photographer John Margolies has probably spent more time in out-of-the-way motels than anybody except Bonnie and Clyde. But the law isn’t after Margolies, time is. And time is winning, as more and more quaint roadside attractions fall, and Marriott Courtyards rise. In addition to his memories, Margolies has a pile of loving photographs, which he recently published in the surprisingly fascinating book, Home Away From Home: Motels in America. His illustrated lecture on the history of the rest stop will be followed by a reception and book-signing at 6:30 p.m. at the National Building Museum, 401 F St. NW. $7.
