D.C. go-go funk’s party-chant lyrics may be a bit predictable, and its melodies may lack originality, but there’s no denying the hypnotic power of its uniquely percussive polyrhythms. Nine representatives of this 20-year-old, still-vital homegrown genre—including the Junkyard Band, Rare Essence, Backyard Band, Precise, Northwest Youngins, and Huck-a-Bucks—will be performing at the Malcolm X Cultural Education Center’s “Sixth Annual Kwanzaa Food Drive Go-Go” at 4 p.m. at the D.C. Armory, 2001 East Capitol St. NE. $15 ($12 with a donation of four cans of food). (202) 678-8352. (Steve Kiviat)
