It has been 16 years since Gang of Four unleashed the incredible Entertainment—a socialist manifesto underscored by jarring funk rhythms and slashing, avant-garde guitar. The follow-up, Solid Gold, was equally epochal, but then the Four went disco for two albums, disbanded for several years, and reappeared with 1991’s ill-conceived Mall. The gang has been reduced to the core duo of vocalist Jon King and guitarist Andy Gill for its new album, Shrinkwrapped, which manages to highlight the best aspects of the first two albums without sounding retrogressive. Engine 88 and Drill open at 9 p.m. at the 9:30 Club, 930 F St. NW. $10. (202) 393-0930. (CP)
