The literary cowboy singer/songwriter is a ’70s thing, but for his third album, Where’d You Hide the Body, James McMurty hired producer Don Dixon to drag him into, well, the ’80s. The mostly mournful Texas singer/songwriter gets a little bit funky (“Fuller Brush Man”) and a little bit rock ‘n’ roll (“Rayolight”), but then how up-to-date need a literary cowboy be to lament the present with lines like “I don’t think she’s seen the sky/Since we got the satellite dish”? Terri Allard opens at 8 p.m. at the Birchmere, 3901 Mount Vernon Ave., Alexandria. $15. (703) 549-5919. (MJ)
