“Travel back through time to when Native Americans populated this country,” coos a Fairfax County Park Authority calendar promoting “Native American Survival Skills”—never mind that Native Americans still populate this country. A Park Authority naturalist will demonstrate hunting techniques, fire-building, and other skills for those who can’t get enough of those “Southwestern” knickknacks they bought on that trip to Santa Fe. To be sure, the seminar means to celebrate Native cultures, but acknowledging that Native Americans still exist might lend it more cultural credibility. Decide for yourself at 1 p.m. at the Hidden Oaks Nature Center, 4030 Hummer Rd., Annandale. FREE. For reservations call (703) 941-1065. (John Cloud)
