A native of the Cape Verde Islands, Cesaria Evoria records her albums in Paris. But the dominant influences on her morna—songs of sadness and longing—seem to be Iberian. With Evoria singing in Spanish and Portuguese to the accompaniment of flamencolike guitar and discreet percussion, you’d hardly guess that her hometown of Mindelo is closer to Dakar than to Madrid. At 8 p.m. at the Birchmere, 3901 Mount Vernon Ave., Alexandria. $15. (703) 549-5919. (Mark Jenkins)
