There’s still time to nominate local icons for Best of D.C.
I HAVE NEVER BEEN SO moved to think about another’s personal hell as when I read Sridhar Pappu’s “Goner” (9/1). It was one of the most haunting and beautifully written stories ever. I read it on Sept. 2 and it has stayed with me since. How interesting it was to try and see just where and when this person got lost or just gave up. One might say, oh, it was the alcohol, but Pappu shows us differently. Most of us would say, “This won’t happen to me!” I’m sure during Jim Hill’s life he thought just that. We all know how sad and unjust this world is—what is sadder yet, living alone or dying alone? Forever my thinking will be changed. Thank you.
