Whether jumping up on his vibraphone to whip the crowd into a frenzy, or simply elevating that once-bland instrument to the heights of cool jazz, Lionel Hampton has never lost the vitality swing music covets. Now 87 years old, and his never-ending tour slowed only slightly, Hampton takes time to soak up the admiration of his peers in “Great Vibes: An All-Star Tribute to Lionel Hampton.” Fellow vibists Milt Jackson and Roy Ayers, saxophonists Frank Foster and Illinois Jacquet, guitarist Kenny Burrell, and trumpeters Harry “Sweets” Edison and Terence Blanchard salute Hampton at 8 p.m. at the Kennedy Center Concert Hall. $17-38.50.
