Call it his “best of the ’90s” show. “Drastic,” 45-year-old choreographer Donald Byrd‘s current modern-dance program, features Byrd’s troupe, The Group, performing excerpts from Drastic Cuts, Life Situations, and Bristle—three Byrd works that have been danced over the past five years by a number of different companies. A Balanchine devotee who’s studied under Alvin Ailey, Twyla Tharp, and Gus Solomons Jr., this prolific North Carolina-born artist favors an energetic synthesis of classic, avant-garde, and street-dance techniques. At 8 p.m. at the George Mason University Center for the Arts, 4400 University Dr., Fairfax. $10-30. (703) 993-8888. (SK)
